Childcare is not just about finding a babysitter for your child when it is time to go back to work. Whether you need care or not, all children benefit from an early childhood education. At Kool Beanz Academy we recognise years of research, leading to statistics acknowledging benefits of a child’s education through their early years. We value the difference it makes when children are exposed to attending an early learning environment, supporting all developmental milestones.
If you’re thinking of giving your child a head start before school, it pays to send them to a childcare centre that focuses on early childhood education. From 0-5 are amongst some of the most influential years of a child’s life with lasting effects and benefits from what they are exposed to. Research shows that early childhood education is one of the best ways to help your child develop the social, emotional and cognitive skills they need to prepare for primary school and beyond.
There are numerous components that make up the elements of a child’s overall wellbeing. From the sense of belonging and security to extending a child’s learning opportunities through a range of experiences such as social interaction, exploring, problem solving, physical experimentation, language, literacy, and numeracy.
At Kool Beanz Academy we believe in a holistic approach to learning with our programs developed to meet the individual interests and developmental needs of each child.
Here are a few ways that your child can benefit from early childhood education, now and in the future.
- They will develop good habits
Daily routines help children feel safe and secure. They are also a great way to teach children healthy habits, like brushing their teeth or washing their hands. When children know what to expect each day, they are more likely to be calm, settled and get into good sleeping habits. Over time, they are start taking charge of daily activities, like getting dressed and packing their bag.
Childcare is ideal for helping your child get into a good routine. Educators know what skills your child needs to develop and use various techniques to help them develop these skills in a safe, structured environment. This not only prepares your child for kindergarten, but makes family life easier, so you spend less time trying to get your child to cooperate and more time enjoying each other’s company.
- They develop literacy and numeracy skills
Literacy and numeracy skills form a foundation for education, but it is more than just reading, writing and counting. Children learn literacy skills by listening to stories, talking about pictures and drawing shapes on paper. They learn numeracy skills by singing and playing music or pouring sand into containers of different sizes.
At Kool Beanz Academy our children’s literacy and numeracy is supported by the ILR (I love reading) program. ILR is a unique literacy program designed to facilitate the rapid learning of reading English. It takes the complexity out of the English language and makes decoding words easier and faster by helping early learners to grasp the English language from a young age. Through the ILR program, students quickly move from ‘Learning to Read’ to ‘Reading to Learn’. From here, the rate of learning increases and the learning environment becomes a place of engaged students exploring educational concepts, skills and ideas, years ahead of their expected levels.
The literacy and numeracy skills your child learns before they start school have a dramatic impact on their academic success later in life. Research shows that children who attend childcare for three years or more perform much better on year 4 literacy and numeracy tests1, while 18 months of preschool has a greater impact on literacy and numeracy levels at age 11, than all six years of primary school (1).
- They will develop emotional resilience
Childcare gives your child an opportunity to develop social skills, which helps them form healthy relationships with other people. They will learn how to get along with other children, share and take turns, listen to others, communicate their ideas and become independent. As your child gets older, they will use these skills to develop friendships that will shape their sense of identity and their future. It is important to maintain and respect a child’s voice encouraging them to guide their own learning journey.
Childcare also helps your child develop emotional resilience. Research shows that children who attend childcare at age 2-3 are more likely to be attentive and better able to deal with their emotions when they start school (2). Studies have even found that parents benefit from sending their children to childcare, reaping social, emotional and even financial rewards from the relationships they develop with other families at the centre.
- They will enjoy a successful future
Did you know the benefits of early childhood education can last a lifetime? A 30-year study in the United States found that adults who had a high-quality early childhood education from 0-5 years were more likely to be continuously employed and graduate from university (3).
The skills your child learns in the early years of their life are important for their social, emotional and academic success. In fact, research shows that children who do not attend preschool are 50% more likely to start school with a developmental vulnerability (1).
- They will develop a lifelong love of learning
A high-quality childcare centre will not only look after your child safely while you work, but also inspire a lifelong love of learning. Access to early childhood education can provide children with social and cognitive experiences that help them become independent and develop a positive attitude to learning. These skills help your child settle into primary school and drive their academic success (4).
Whether your child is starting school next year or a few years’ time, consider giving them a head start by sending them to a childcare centre that provides high-quality early childhood education in a fun, caring and supportive environment. At Kool Beanz Academy we acknowledge our vital role in supporting children to become the best version of themselves, appreciating each child as a unique individual. Being school ready is not necessarily having the ability to write their names in full but being confident involved learners with the willingness to tackle any challenge and situation head on!!
